Job Description
The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a School Nurse to support the health services and student wellness programs of the School. The School Nurse plays a key role in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment through student health planning, staff training, and oversight of school health policies and procedures, including concussion protocols, infectious disease reporting, and medication administration..
This is a part-time hourly position that varies based on the needs of the school year. The beginning (August–September) and end (April–June) of the school year are the busiest times for this position. Hours typically range from 10–40 hours per month throughout the school year. The position is scheduled to begin July 1, 2026, for the 2026–2027 school year. Compensation is $25/hour.
This position works closely with School administration and serves as a central health resource for the school community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain group and individual health, safety and related emergency action plans in collaboration with families and school admin
- Oversee student medication administration as required by the State of Maryland
- Oversee management of and report communicable illness and infectious disease, immunization, and other records collection as required by the State of Maryland; support follow up with families as necessary
- Provide or identify and recommend training for school staff in CPR/First Aid and Certified Medication Technician (CMT) responsibilities, ensuring compliance and readiness for emergencies
- Support the administration team in maintaining student health records in Magnus Health, providing guidance as needed to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state requirements and best practices
- Review health documentation and medications in preparation for field trips, camp, and other off-campus activities, and delegate care responsibilities as appropriate
- Provide consultation and support in response to acute health concerns, communicable illness, and return-to-school protocols following injury or illness
- Serve as a point of contact for local and state health departments and advise the school on health regulations, policies, and best practices
- Assist in procuring, maintaining, and training staff on emergency medications such as EpiPens and Narcan
- Participate in in-service days to support staff training, share relevant student health information, and prepare health spaces and systems for the school year
- Monitor the implementation of school health policies and provide recommendations for improvement
- Maintain regular communication with school leadership, staff, families, and healthcare providers as needed
- Provide on-site supervision of school health services at regular intervals and participate in meetings as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Active Maryland RN license or compact state license
Completion of the RN Case Manager/Delegating Nurse Training Program for School Health
If the training program is not completed by the start date, the candidate will be required to complete it within 30 days of their start date.
Preferred Experience
- Experience as a School Nurse or School Delegating Nurse in Maryland schools
- Experience working with student health record systems such as Magnus Health
- Experience supporting students with chronic health conditions in a school setting
- Experience training staff and supporting health compliance in an educational environment
