Portraits in Landscape – Senior Solo Art Show
Thursday, May 7, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
WWS is pleased to present Portraits in Landscape, a solo exhibition of approximately 25 works by Phoebe Langham, a current WWS senior. This exhibition invites the public to explore the tension between the human figure and the environments that contain, define, and sometimes dwarf it.
Working solely in oil paint, Phoebe brings together figures and their surroundings in compositions that resist easy categorization. She incorporates literary metaphors, characters and personal figures. She carefully places them into narratives with thought and sensitivity in regards to formal aspects of painting such as light, texture, and space. There is both a joy and seriousness in her work that is indicative of her overall sense of self.
The opening reception will include an artist talk at 4:30 PM with artist and WWS Upper School Art Teacher, Isabel Manalo, offering attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the artist about the ideas and processes behind the work. Many exhibited works will be available for purchase. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
Portraits in Landscape marks Phoebe Langham’s first solo exhibition.
