Job Description
The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland is seeking a full time Lead Teacher in our 2-3 year olds program starting in July 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.
Lead Teachers create a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for all; ensuring the students experience a school environment created in accordance with Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and the Eight AWSNA Principles of Waldorf Education; and furthering WWS’s commitment to DEIB by creating an inclusive classroom environment.
In addition to classroom responsibilities, attendance at weekly full faculty and department meetings; in-service and out-service training prior to and immediately after each school year; and professional development days are expected/encouraged.
Responsibilities include:
- Carry out the classroom program and activities in alignment with the WECAN and AWSNA principles; nurturing and educating children in a way that demonstrates sound knowledge of early childhood development
- Provide a bridge for parents to Waldorf education and Washington Waldorf School through regular class meetings, sharing of relevant materials, and at parent teacher conferences
- Maintain classroom and manage teaching supplies and budget for the class
- Participate in the admissions process for new families, including parent interviews and enrollment events outside of regular school hours
- Communicate regularly with parents through weekly class notes and parent meetings and written reports as determined by the department
- Participate in all school and department wide faculty work including meetings, teacher development, and classroom and school-wide festivals
The Lead Seedlings teacher will be supported by an assistant teacher.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Training (or a commitment to begin such training); Waldorf teaching experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to meet all State of Maryland Office of Child Care licensing requirements, and ability to pass a comprehensive Maryland criminal background check
- Completion of OCC 90 hour training or equivalent. WWS provides assistance for the 90 hour course fees for new hires
