Job Description

The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a School Nurse to start July 1, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.

This is a part-time hourly position that varies based on need for the school year. The beginning (August – September) and end (April – June) of the school year are the busiest times for this position. Hours can range from 10-40 hours per month throughout the school year. Pay for this position is $25/hr.

Job Overview:

  • Assist and provide technical assistance to Washington Waldorf School health service programs to support our efforts to plan for students with special health needs
  • Provide training to all appropriate school staff regarding issues related to students with special health needs including, but not limited to, planning, maintaining a safe environment, and medication administration issues
  • Monitor the implementation of school health services programs including, but not limited to, programs and policies related to students with special health needs

Duties:

  • Assessing the health care needs school population
  • Being available for adequate supervision of school health services (minimum of being on-site every 45 days)
  • Staff CPR/first Aid training
  • Staff Certified Medication Technician training 
  • Reviewing student medical information and forms forms (including immunization & medication) using Magnus Health (electronic health forms submitted by all students) 
  • Ensuring medication administration documentation is correct and current for all students throughout the school year
  • Support school administration with following up with families to get forms completed
  • Support school with submission of Maryland State Immunization Survey (due early November)
  • Form reviews in preparation for all class trips
    • Review  the medication forms and physical medications on campus
    • Identify teacher/chaperone to whom you will delegate the administration of medication both on campus and for field trips
  • Support school in action plans and procedures for students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, seizure disorder, life threatening allergies
  • Act as contact person for state & local health departments
  • Advise school on student health requirements, policies, and practices
  • Assist school in procuring and maintaining emergency public-use medications such as Epi-pens and Narcan (and related training for staff)
  • Advise and support school staff and communicate with families and healthcare professionals as needed for absence from school and return to school (and to play)  in the event of concussion, serious injury, or serious illness

Qualifications

  • Active Maryland RN license, or compact state license
  • RN Case Manager/Delegating Nurse Training Program for School Health Completion
    • If the course is not completed by the start date, the candidate will be required to complete the training within 30 days of their start date. 
  • Preferred: Training/experience as School Nurse/School Delegating Nurse in Maryland schools
