Job Description

The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking an experienced full-time Spanish teacher for grades 1-7.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Classroom teaching, including class preparation and grading.
  • Working with students with a variety of learning differences and levels of skill
  • and ability.
  • Faculty meetings and committee work.
  • Curriculum development.
  • Professional development and Waldorf training.
  • Participate in planning and chaperoning student trips & activities.
  • Attend and assist in school events and fundraising.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
  • Manage and maintain classroom(s), physical spaces, equipment and supplies.

Additional Support

Individual responsibilities and roles will be assigned and modified or changed as needed to best achieve the School’s goals.  Where a teacher may carry fewer classroom hours, their Additional Support responsibilities may be increased, and vice versa.  The below is a descriptive, not exhaustive, list of additional responsibilities that may be assigned:

  • Supervise drop-off, recess, lunch and pick-up, as assigned
  • Serve on additional committees, as required by WWS
  • Substitute for absent colleagues 
  • Cover emergencies or unexpected gaps to provide appropriate supervision of students
  • Coach sports teams or lead after-school programming 
  • Support athletic teams, clubs, and field trips by chaperoning, driving the bus, and other duties as assigned
  • Support whole-school retention efforts
  • Participate in admissions events, such as open houses, teaching demonstrations, etc., which may occur outside of regular school hours
  • Participate in and support community-building and fundraising events, festivals, and activities, including but not limited to the Welcome Back Picnic, End of Year Picnic Fall Bazaar, Fall / Spring Festival and Gala

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or commensurate knowledge/experience
  • Waldorf teacher training certification, or commensurate experience, required
