Mei-Lin Khor

Mei-Lin Khor’s path to early childhood education began in England, where she studied architecture, drawn to creativity and design. After moving to Washington, DC, her interest in the creative arts and therapeutic approaches led her to an arts-integrated charter school, beginning her 17-year journey in education.

Mei-Lin went on to train as a Montessori teacher for children ages 3–6 in London and later studied the RIE and Pikler approaches. After the birth of her daughter, Mei-Lin discovered Waldorf education through the Parent and Child program at Acorn Hill with Liz Hagerman. She went on to spend four and a half years at Acorn Hill, serving in several roles from assistant and lead teacher to Parent and Child facilitator, deepening her connection to Waldorf education and its understanding of the importance of the early years. She was drawn to the ways Waldorf and Pikler complement one another, particularly in their respect for unhurried development, meaningful relationships, and each child’s innate capacities.

Mei-Lin has studied Pikler pedagogy for the past six years, including two intensive trainings with the Pikler Institute in Budapest, Hungary. She is currently completing Waldorf teacher training for birth through age seven at Sophia’s Hearth Family Center.

She feels deeply honored to accompany children during these earliest years, finding joy in observing their growing independence, purposeful play, and discovery of the world around them. She believes that when children are given time, space, and the loving presence of attentive adults, they can unfold in their own time with confidence, curiosity, and joy.

Mei-Lin lives in Silver Spring with her partner, Martin, their daughter, and their five beloved rabbits.
