Mariana was born in Xalapa, a college town ringed by volcanoes and cloud forest in the Veracruz state of Mexico. Raised by two anthropologists who guided her to be a passionate and sensitive cultural observer, Mariana started to use photography as tool to see and share stories at a young age.

Mariana has a BA in Biology, and an MA in Natural Resources Management and Rural Development. She has worked as a science teacher, environmental educator and scientific communicator. In recent years, she has become a specialist in leveraging audiovisual tools to conduct environmental research and promote conservation.

Mariana and her family moved to Takoma Park in 2020. Together, they maintain the hope of creating a community where many worlds peacefully co-exist.

She worked at Acorn Hill, a Waldorf Nursery and Kindergarten school in Silver Spring, for the past 3 years.
