Maria Chafetz

Early Childhood Substitute Teacher

Maria

Maria grew up in Washington, DC, and spent her early twenties in South Africa, where she met her partner and worked in educational access and food justice. She comes to WWS with a background in food education at a DC public charter school, in addition to a few years in film production.

Maria encountered Waldorf education during her first years at home with her children, and felt an alignment with her family’s values. In particular, she appreciates how this framework honors respect for the natural world, play and creative expression as essential, and the nurturing of humor, joy, and wonder.

As her first child came to WWS, Maria soon followed to support in the Early Childhood department. Maria is passionate about fostering a vibrant and diverse school community, and supporting young students and their families at WWS. Both of her children attend WWS.
