A Morning at WWS in Photos
On May 7, 2025 professional photographer Eli Turner joined us on campus to capture candid moments with our classes. It is a pleasure to walk around the campus and find so many moments of discovery, learning, delight, and joy. We hope this post gives a window into the vibrant and joyful learning that happens on our campus every day!
Morning Arrivals and Handwork Circle in the Entrance Hall
Before the school day begins, the lower school students are invited to bring their handwork projects to the entrance hall for some extra time with Ms. Buchman, our beloved handwork teacher.

Preparing for the Day
We understand that bodies need to move and not just sit at desks all day. We try to balance the rhythm of a student’s day so they are able to sit and focus when necessary.

Morning/Main Lesson
Grades 1-12 start each morning with an extended period of in-depth study in a particular subject area. Morning lesson subjects rotate in blocks that last for about a month. Examples here include Grade 2 eagerly diving into math problems, Grade 5 outside closely observing and drawing plants for their botany studies, Grade 6 visualizing the physics of sound with a Chladni Plate, Grade 7 exploring the dynamics and functions of simple machines , Grade 8 reading and engaging in dialog about constructs of race and how they have changed in the history of the United States, Grade 9 digging into geology studies in one of our high school science labs, and Grade 10 studying Ancient Greece with a discussion of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.

Early Childhood Classes Outside
Our preschool and kindergarten classes were enjoying the outdoors before circle and snack time. We found the youngest classes on our early childhood playground. The Songbirds and Sunflowers kindergarten classes had taken a walk to a nearby meadow where they celebrated spring with a maypole dance. The Waldorf in the Woods forest kindergarten program was in full swing with kids exploring the woods, whittling, weaving, shaping wooden swords with sandpaper, and preparing for a healthy snack.

Preparing a Healthy Lunch
We stopped by the kitchen and said hello to the Good Food Healthy Lunch Program staff. It was Wednesday, so that means pizza with salad and broccoli.

Subject Classes
After Morning Lesson, Grades 1-12 move on to classes with subject teachers. Pictured below: Grade 2 reading in the library with the Grade 9 English class, Grade 3 Eurythmy then Spanish (making Pico de Gallo), Grade 4 coming up the hill from Movement on the field then Woodwork and Handwork, Grade 6 Strings, Grade 7 Art, Grade 8 Math, Grade 10 Technology (learning coding), Grade 12 English and then Math. Bonus pictures: high school orchestra students laughing with their teacher in the hallway and the Grade 2 teachers setting out Pizza Day lunch for their class.

All of this happened on our campus before lunch! After lunch and a recess break, students jump back into subject classes, electives for high school students, and practice periods/study hall where students can dive deeper into their work from various classes. The preschool and kindergarteners who stay for a full day have a rest time after lunch and then more time of rich imaginative play and laying the foundation for future academic success.
