Camp Description
What could be better than to spend time exploring the variety of bike friendly ways to get around the city?! We will be on gravel and pavement, so all riders should have a versatile or hybrid bike that can handle a variety of road surfaces. Shocks are not needed, and ultra thin tire road bikes would not be a great choice for most days either. In any case, the bikes must be in good shape and tuned up prior to the week, and all participants must wear helmets and carry water bottles and their lunch and spare cash or card to purchase snacks.
Options for our travels will include Rock Creek Park, the National Mall and Tidal Basin, Arlington National Cemetery (and maybe see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), Roosevelt Island, and along the Potomac River towards Mount Vernon. Students will look at the map to figure out distances and other sights along the way, including some frozen treats on the way! Come see DC 15-25 miles per day on your very own spokes.
We will move at a reasonable pace that the whole group can be comfortable with, but will not try to break any land speed records this week! Focus on fun and seeing the sights! And finding frozen treats!
Limit 10 campers.
