Job Description

The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a full time Educational Support Specialist for Middle School and High School students effective immediately.  

The Educational Support Specialist plays a critical role supporting students with diverse learning profiles, providing individualized and small-group instruction, and collaborating with faculty and families to ensure academic success.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, although a Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field is preferred.  A demonstrated understanding of Waldorf pedagogy is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of assistive technologies and their application in an academic setting.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues in a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, growth-oriented learning culture for all students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review psycho-educational assessments and generate learning plans for students.
  • Conduct individual and small-group sessions focused on building academic skills, study strategies, and executive functioning.
  • Lead coordinated professional development sessions for faculty to enhance their knowledge of best teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide strategies and accommodations that support diverse learners in an inclusive environment.
  • Conduct assessments to identify student strengths and areas of need, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty on effective teaching strategies for neurodivergent learners.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for support.
  • Coordinate with outside professionals (e.g., tutors, therapists and evaluators) to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of best practices and emerging research in the field of learning support and neurodiversity.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend Department and Faculty Meetings.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote equity, inclusion and diversity in education.
  • Support professional development opportunities for faculty related to learning differences and instructional strategies. 
  • Attend and assist with school events, including parent-teacher conferences, open houses and student support meetings.

The compensation for this position includes a salary range of $51.5K – $64K and our full benefits package which includes health, disability and life insurance; dental reimbursement; retirement plan (after 1 year of employment); optional dental, vision and illness/accident insurance; professional development support; and tuition remission for the teacher’s children attending WWS.
