Job Description

The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking an Educational Support Teacher for its Early Childhood department effective immediately.  This is a 15 hour/week hourly position during the school year.  The position includes a pro-rated “sick and safe” leave and some professional development opportunities but no other benefits. 

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Observing children in the classroom setting and working with parents and teachers to provide recommendations.
  • Working with children in small groups or individually to provide play-based developmental support.
  • Participating in the First Grade Readiness committee.
  • Supporting first grade readiness assessments in the Fall. 
  • Writing reports for the first grade assessments and sharing them with the parents, teachers and First Grade Readiness committee.
  • Conducting play-based developmental assessments for 4-5 year old children.
  • Supporting parent education by holding meetings with parents, sharing articles, etc.
  • Working with the Lower School Educational Support.
  • Participate in weekly Early Childhood department meetings.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Waldorf Early Childhood Pedagogy.
  • Certificate in Waldorf educational support (such as Extra Lesson or Nurturing the Roots).  Other therapeutic and educational support training and background are a plus.
  • Ability to pass a Maryland criminal background check.
