SUMMARY:AMA: What’s It Like To Be a Waldorf Parent? (Preschool - Grade 5)
DESCRIPTION:AMA: What’s it Like to be a Waldorf Parent? \nCurious what daily life actually looks like for a family at Washington Waldorf School? Join us for a candid virtual conversation with two current parents at our school as they share their personal experience of the joys of and adjustments to being part of the WWS community. \nWhether you’re considering enrollment in our early childhood or elementary school programs\, already part of our community\, or simply want a real parent’s perspective\, this is your chance to ask anything. How do families navigate limited screen time at home? What does the transition from a more traditional kindergarten or elementary school look like? How has Waldorf education shaped their child’s development — and their own parenting? No question is off-limits. \nWe’ll start with a quick virtual tour of our elementary school and early childhood spaces and have plenty of time for Q&A. \nWednesday\, July 29 at noon ET \n\nRegister on our website

SUMMARY:Portraits in Landscape - Senior Solo Art Show
DESCRIPTION:WWS is pleased to present Portraits in Landscape\, a solo exhibition of approximately 25 works by Phoebe Langham\, a current WWS senior. This exhibition invites the public to explore the tension between the human figure and the environments that contain\, define\, and sometimes dwarf it. \nWorking solely in oil paint\, Phoebe brings together figures and their surroundings in compositions that resist easy categorization. She incorporates literary metaphors\, characters and personal figures. She carefully places them into narratives with thought and sensitivity in regards to formal aspects of painting such as light\, texture\, and space. There is both a joy and seriousness in her work that is indicative of her overall sense of self. \nThe opening reception will include an artist talk at 4:30 PM with artist and WWS Upper School Art Teacher\, Isabel Manalo\, offering attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the artist about the ideas and processes behind the work. Many exhibited works will be available for purchase. Admission is free\, and light refreshments will be served. \nPortraits in Landscape marks Phoebe Langham’s first solo exhibition.

I am known to be fun\, fair\, firm and friendly – supporting teenagers. I am a student-focused advocate and advisor. I currently serve as the Director of College Counseling at the Waldorf School of the Peninsula in California. I previously served as the University Counseling Coordinator/HS Counselor at the International School Nido de Aguilas in Santiago\, Chile – an American international school. I have been on various boards (i.e. MaiaLearning and EAB Global Concourse – educational college counseling related platforms). I enjoyed my role as Co-Chair of the International ACAC (Association of College Admission Counseling) Pre-Conference Institute\, and as a faculty member having trained hundreds of counselors. I have worked in education and admissions counseling for 26 years.  \nI have led admissions and directed international exchange/study abroad programs and served as a US independent and international school university counselor. In the US\, I worked for the School of International Training (VT)\, the University of Arizona\, The Gregory School (AZ)\, Drew School and Wildwood School (CA) along with the Awty International School (TX). I regularly present at professional conferences including International ACAC\, Council of International Schools (CIS) most recently offering a session on the use of AI in the college admissions process in July 2024. I worked in Chile\, Switzerland\, Turkey\, Malaysia\, Thailand\, Vietnam and of course the United States.   \nI love working with teens honing my teen 007 skills and spending time with my family as a father of an 11 year old. I am dedicated to studying wellness\, adolescent mental health and the self-discovery that goes along with the college/university application process. I believe every young person needs a trusted sounding board and someone who sees the best in them.
