Inclement Weather Policy

Letter from Jennifer Page on New Snow Day Policy, February 2016

WWS will leave a message on our main phone line 301-229-6107 if school is closed or delayed because of inclement weather.

The Washington Waldorf School follows Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) decisions with regard to school closures or delays in the event of inclement weather, as follows:

If MCPS is closed, the Washington Waldorf School will also be closed.

If MCPS is having a delayed opening, the Washington Waldorf School will open at 10 a.m. for all students. Students should arrive at School between 9:45 and 10:00.

If MCPS announces an early closing of school:

  • Parents of Children’s Garden and Lower School students are to pick up --or arrange for alternate pick up of -- their children as soon as possible. WWS staff will stay with the children until they can be picked up, but aftercare will not be provided.
  • WWS High School students will be dismissed as soon as possible after the Montgomery County announcement, unless a parent has called the school to make other arrangements.
  • If your High School student has siblings in or carpools with Lower School or Children's Garden students, please plan ahead so that your High School student will know whether or not to collect younger students in the event of an early dismissal.

MCPS provides a recording of weather related closure/delay information at 301-279-3673 and on their website,

We strongly urge parents to sign up for Alert MCPS, which offers several ways of being notified of school closures, including email, text message, and Twitter. (We no longer participate in School's Out, another school closure notification system.)

The following radio stations also provide regular updates on Montgomery County School closings:

WAMU 88.5 FM
WTOP 103.5 FM and 820 AM
