From the Back to School Tea to the Senior Rose Ceremony, there are many opportunities throughout the school year to be engaged. The rich sense of community and parent network enhances the children's experience and adds to the nurturing environment at WWS. Parents are encouraged to attend morning teas with the Faculty Chair, Parent Organization meetings, class meetings and adult education seminars, and the many festivals and events throughout the year.
The Wednesday Bulletin and the website are the best places to find out what is going on and how parents can get involved and stay informed.
At Washington Waldorf, parents can become as involved as they choose, ranging from volunteering to serve on the Board of Trustees, helping with community events, participating in handwork groups and helping as needed in their children’s class. Parent involvement builds community spirit, inspires our continued learning as parents, supports the teachers, administration, and staff in their efforts, and provides financial assistance for special projects. Most parent involvement, except the Board of Trustees and fundraising, is organized through the Parent Organization.
While our parents are of diverse backgrounds and professions, they are united by many common values and a shared interest in their children’s schooling. At Washington Waldorf, not only do our students develop close and lasting relationships, but our parents also appreciate community warmth, friendship and support. Here are a few of the ways parents can be involved:
- Parent Organization
- Parent Organization Leadership
- Class Representative
- Class Parent
- Class Agent
- Trustees Council Committee (by invitation of the Chair)
- Kitchen Volunteer
- Chaperone (as needed by the teacher)
